1. Turn off all electrics at the mains.
  2. Do not walk through flooded areas, as there may be hidden obstacles.
  3. Contact your insurance company
  4. Take pictures of damaged items/property etc.
  5. Do not start any works/dispose of any items until insurance adjuster has visited property.
  6. Contact a specialist repair company to assist you with assessing full scope of works, and negotiations with insurance agents (this should help speed up the claim process)
  7. After inspection by insurance company remove any damaged items etc. and carpeting as these can hold large amounts of water.  A specialist company can carry this out for you.
  8. Leave all windows/doors open to ventilate the property.
  9. A specialist repair company can then assess what drying equipment is most efficient to carry our drying of property. (standard dehumidifiers may not be very effective)
  10. Make a list of things that need to be done and rank them by what needs to be done first etc.
